A reading report supposed to be posted two weeks ago

Hi all,

Please forgive me being a such lazy boy. This article is supposed to be posted two weeks ago. Actually I did write half my report at that time, but I forgot to save it before a rebooting of my notebook. So.. now I'm trying to rewrite it from my recall memory.

The topic I chose that week is the news discussing Corcs shoes. After reading this article, I really have a good impression on Corcs shoes' comfort. As I told you, I am willing to do anything possible to build up a comfortable working enviornment. So, a pair of Corcs shoes has been marked as a must-by item in my buy list. I will definitely buy a new pair in the next time I happen to walk around a Corcs store, and then wear them in my office. I intend to use Corcs shoes to replace my casual slippers. After all, slippers are not decent at all in working place. I think it might be more unnoticable whiling I'm fooling around my office with Crocs shoes.

BTW, if you have any tips that can make you work more comfortably or refresh your mind while you're tired of your task at hand. Please share them to me. That would be much obliged.

Thanks
Hugh

One sentence I noticed from "How to save Time"

It seems that the article "How to save Time" is nothing special, because everyone knows that saving one's time is important. But one sentence in this article makes me impressive, and the sentence is "In order to delegate, you must come to terms with the fact that the task will not be done exactly how you would have done it."

My boss often tells me that I'm the project manager of the project which I responsible for, and I think this also means I have to responsible for the success or fail of the project. But my boss often intervene too much, and at the end, it seems that this project becomes the idea of my boss, but I still have to responsible for the success or fail.

In the darkness side, the behavior of my boss is "To say is one thing, To do is another thing", she says that she wants to delegate, but what she did is being afraid that the outcome of the project will not as she originally think, so she intervened. In the brightness side, my boss just wants everything is perfectly done.

There are three members in our team, and our more powerful bosses said that our team did not attain the performance of three people. Maybe one of the reasons is that my boss spends too much time on telling us how to doing our work, so my boss said that in the new year, she had to delegate more power to us to get our work done. I think it's a good thing, and I hope the work performance of our team in the new year will be better than the previous year.

The photo I noticed in "Christmas Comes to Elkhart Lake"

The topic I would like to talk is about one photo in this article, "Christmas Comes to Elkhart Lake". And the photo is in the bottom-left side in page 34, and the title of the photo is "Nesting dolls made in Russia for sale".

Interestingly, I also have a nesting doll, too. You can see my nesting doll by clicking the hyper- link. My brother's Russian customer gave me the nesting doll as a gift, and I think he would like to show his appreciation for accompanying him to visit National Palace Museum(故宮). I received the gift, and feeling extremely flattered because only I got the gift!! ha~ha~

I think the nesting doll is a very special stuff which could be one of the characteristic of Russia. As you open the first doll, you find the second doll which is smaller than the first one, and you continue opening the third one and curious about how many dolls in it until you open the last one. The drawing of each doll is different, and I'm not sure if the doll is handmade. If so, each doll is unique and priceless!! :)

After reading the article "Too many vacationers tied to office e-mail"

In this article, the author tell us that as technology improves we have to bear more pressure from our workload. It is very interesting point of view. We develop a lot of technology to help us accomplish tasks more easily, but some of them make us more nervous on our vacations. This article mention that it is hard to never check the emails when you are on vacation because you don't want to miss any message. It is the same as cellar phones. If don't get some phone from your boss, you should turn off the cellar phone to get rid of those interruptions on vacation.(To be continued....)

When I read the article, "Collaborative Culture for Software Developers", I noticed the word "pet project".One of the task of our team is to encourage staff in TL willing to develop their own pet project.

However, it is difficult to accomplished resulting from different factors such as policy, human nature,..etc. To be honest, I think I don't have enough enthusiasm to do so.

Even if someone who have great motivation, energy, enthusiasm to develop his or her pet project, what does their boss might think? "Oh! he has time to develop the pet project, did I give he too less work? Maybe I should increase his loading" or "Oh! he often told me that he is exhausted to do the work. Maybe it's because he pay too much attention on his pet project ! "

To me, pet project means difficulty, dilemma. Maybe this is because I'm not the one who can develop pet project. ha~

I want to share what I got after reading the article "The Difference Maker"

Hello! everyone,in this week I want to share what I got after reading the article "The Difference Maker". We often read some books or articles about encouraging people to correct their attitude because they say "Attitude is everything".But this book John C. Maxwell wrote tells us that attitude cannot replace competence, experience and so on.

It make me think that we must realize what we are. We all have different weakness and strength. We cannot do everything in a positive attitude without thinking about our attributes. We can do something better if it matches our strength.

ha~It is hard for me to write some words in English because I have no chance to do so.But I think if we can continually practice English together, I will write in English more smoothly.

What I got afer reading the atricle "Collaborative Culture for Software Developers"

Hi all, the article I read this week is "Collaborative Culture for Software Developers." The reason I chose this article, of course, is I am quite interested in any topic related to software industry. At first, I thought this article might read like traditional textbook, such as the MIS book we used to read in university. I even expected some key words inside such as collaboration system, SCM, or CRM. But, contrary to my expectation, this article introduces an emerging type of gathering that lures lots of techies to work together on interesting stuff.

This kind of gathering is really attarctive, isn't it? With lots of food, smart guys, creative ideas, and energies, it will make you believe you can drive any idea to become a reality. I said we should have some gatherings like this as well. Lyon could be the smart guy, monster could bring us energy anytime, as for me, I can take care of food. Sounds good, right?

OK, seriously, we all know there is still a long long way we have to go through as a study group. Let just set SuperHappyDevHouse as a ultimate object of our study group. Some day we may found another FaceBook or Google. I hope so.

Let's go, NCU study group!
